Addresses Axis Bank Senior Management Confluence in Srinagar

Srinagar :Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday addressed the Axis Bank Senior Management Confluence in Srinagar, underscoring the critical role of the banking sector in strengthening financial inclusion, supporting entrepreneurship, and driving sustainable economic growth in Jammu & Kashmir.
Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Gulmarg Pirzada Farooq Ahmed Shah, MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq, MLA Hazratbal Salman Ali Sagar, Director Tourism Qamar Sajad, Managing Director & CEO of Axis Bank Amitabh Chaudhry, Executive Director Munish Sharda, President & Head Branch Banking (North) Reynold D’souza, along with regional heads and senior officials, were present on the occasion.
Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir commended Axis Bank for its organization of the Confluence and its ongoing commitment to the region, highlighting the bank’s extensive network of 54 branches that significantly contribute to financial inclusion. He acknowledged that while Jammu & Kashmir is smaller in geographical size and resources compared to other states, it is abundant in opportunities, particularly in sectors such as micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), tourism, agriculture, and horticulture. The Chief Minister noted the region’s positive transformation, driven by infrastructure development, tourism growth, agricultural progress, and a burgeoning entrepreneurial ecosystem. He emphasized the crucial role of the banking sector in facilitating credit access, promoting digital finance, and supporting business growth. In discussing tourism, he identified it as a key area for collaboration between the government and financial institutions, suggesting enhancements in customer experience at popular destinations like the Gulmarg Gondola through improved queue management and technology-driven solutions. While tourism is vital, the Chief Minister reiterated that agriculture and horticulture are the primary contributors to the region’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). He called for innovative partnerships with banks to provide tailored financial solutions, strengthen value chains, and enhance market access for farmers. Additionally, he pointed out opportunities in urban governance, particularly in municipal services, where banks can implement efficient, technology-driven systems. The Chief Minister urged the banking sector to expand its involvement in startup financing, support MSMEs, and foster youth entrepreneurship, particularly in underserved areas. He also encouraged banks to engage in corporate social responsibility initiatives that support key sectors like handicrafts and tourism. Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he expressed readiness to collaborate with financial institutions to build a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready economy in Jammu & Kashmir.
