Jan Vishwas Bill, 2026: Major Step in Simplifying Laws: The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026, aims to reform 79 Central Acts administered by 23 Ministries, covering 784 provisions. The legislation ensures that minor mistakes do not lead to imprisonment, providing a fairer and more humane system for citizens.

Ease of Living Reforms Introduced: The Bill introduces citizen-friendly measures, including a 30-day grace period for expired driving licences and simplified property tax rules under the NDMC Act. It also allows accident victims more time to claim compensation and abolishes outdated colonial-era provisions that criminalised ordinary nighttime movement.
  4. Supporting MSMEs, Businesses: The Jan Vishwas Bill reduces compliance burdens for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Under laws such as the Legal Metrology Act and Private Security Agencies Act, first-time procedural lapses now attract warnings instead of immediate fines.
  5. Balanced Enforcement For A Modern Regulatory System: The Bill establishes proportionate penalties, warnings before punishment, and dedicated adjudicating authorities to ensure faster and fair resolution of minor violations. Serious offences remain punishable, while minor or procedural lapses are handled through civil penalties or administrative measures.
