Two-day Cursor Hackathon Kashmir Kicks Off at NIT Srinagar

Evaluations, sponsor tracks provide exposure to industry-standard technologies, tools

Srinagar :The much-anticipated Cursor Hackathon Kashmir began on Saturday at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, marking the launch of a two-day innovation-focused event aimed at fostering impactful and scalable solutions among student participants.

The hackathon serves as a platform for young innovators to showcase their technical skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities in a collaborative environment.

The Cursor Hackathon Kashmir, organized by Dr. Iqra Altaf Gillani, Faculty Coordinator of the Technology Club, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various disciplines. The event aims to provide a structured platform for students to transform their ideas into tangible solutions. The inauguration featured notable figures, including Dr. Janib ul Bashir, Associate Dean ERP at NIT Srinagar, and Mohtasham Madani, Ambassador of Cursor, who emphasized the importance of technological exposure and mentorship for students. Dr. Janib ul Bashir highlighted that hackathons like Cursor are essential for fostering creativity and problem-solving skills, allowing participants to engage with technology in a collaborative manner. Mohtasham Madani noted that the collaboration with NIT Srinagar empowers students with hands-on experience and exposure to advanced tools, positioning them to tackle global challenges. Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director of NIT Srinagar, expressed pride in hosting initiatives that enhance coding culture, teamwork, and innovation, while Prof. Atikur Rehman, Registrar, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to creating an ecosystem that encourages technical excellence and experimentation. The hackathon, themed “Build for the Next Billion,” encourages participants to address challenges in sectors such as education, healthcare, finance, agriculture, and accessibility. Day 1 included structured workshops to equip students with necessary tools, followed by intensive coding sessions supported by industry professionals who provided mentorship. Participants demonstrated remarkable dedication, meeting the submission deadline at 5:00 AM on Day 2. The event is structured in two rounds, with submissions evaluated by a panel of experts from leading organizations, including NVIDIA, Oracle, LinkedIn, Dell EMC, and AIG. Additionally, multiple sponsor tracks offer participants opportunities to explore specialized domains such as AI, backend and frontend development, UI/UX design, automation, and search technologies.
