Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday lauded the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his decisive action to protect Indian households from supply disruptions and rising fuel costs amid the ongoing West Asia crisis.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor said the measures reflect the Prime Minister’s commitment to safeguarding the standard of living for ordinary citizens.
“The Hon’ble PM has taken a historic decision to insulate households from supply disruptions triggered by the West Asia crisis. Central excise duty has been reduced by ₹10 per litre on both petrol and diesel, shielding consumers from escalating costs,” the LG said.
He further noted that export duties have been strategically imposed at ₹21.5 per litre on diesel and ₹29.5 per litre on aviation turbine fuel to prioritise domestic availability, ensuring adequate supply across the country.
“The visionary intervention ensures affordability, restrains price escalation, and places India’s interests above all. While global markets are in turmoil, our citizens remain shielded and secure,” LG Sinha added.
Officials said the excise duty reduction will partially offset the under-recoveries incurred by public sector oil marketing companies while maintaining stable retail pump prices. The export levies aim to discourage outbound shipments and direct fuel supplies to domestic demand, a move analysts say will help maintain stability amid soaring international crude prices.
The Lieutenant Governor’s remarks underscore the government’s broader strategy of mitigating global market shocks while protecting consumers from sudden price volatility.
