Srinagar: A Pakistani terrorist was killed in a joint anti-infiltration operation by security forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the Army said on Sunday.
An Army spokesperson said the operation, codenamed “Op Diggi-2,” was launched during the intervening night of March 14–15 in the Buchhar area of Uri after specific intelligence inputs were shared by the Jammu and Kashmir Police regarding a possible infiltration attempt.
“Acting on the input, troops of the Indian Army, in coordination with police, laid a joint ambush along the suspected infiltration route in the Uri sector,” he said.
The spokesman said alert troops spotted suspicious movement of a terrorist inside thick vegetation. The ambush party readjusted its position and challenged the terrorist, who opened indiscriminate fire,” he said.
During the brief exchange of gunfire that followed, one Pakistani terrorist was eliminated. Security forces recovered war-like stores from the encounter site, including an AK rifle, pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition.
Officials said the operation is still underway in the area to rule out the presence of any additional infiltrators.
