Srinagar: This week in KH Snippets, we tracked major developments — India’s diplomatic outreach amid the Middle East conflict, the safe evacuation of Indian students from Iran, and significant stories from Jammu and Kashmir that dominated the headlines.
1. India Begins Evacuation Of Students From Iran: India has begun the phased evacuation of medical students stranded in Iran, with the first batch departing for border points on Thursday. Students from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Iran University of Medical Sciences left for the Armenian border after being relocated to Qom. The evacuation is being coordinated by the Embassy of India in Iran, which plans to move students through Armenia and Azerbaijan routes.
2. Indian Students From Iran Likely To Reach Home By March 15: Indian medical students stranded in Iran are expected to return home soon as evacuation efforts gather pace. According to AIMSA President Mohammad Momin Khan, most students are likely to land at Indira Gandhi International Airport on March 15, while a few are expected to arrive earlier at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai on March 14.
3. Evacuation Of Students Through Armenia, Azerbaijan Routes: As part of India’s evacuation plan, students from Urmia University and Shiraz University of Medical Sciences have begun travelling towards Armenia and Azerbaijan border points. Authorities said the evacuation is being handled in coordination with the Embassy of India in Iran to ensure the safe return of students.
4. Panic Over Flight Cancellation Resolved: A brief panic among Indian students in Iran over alleged flight cancellations was resolved after authorities provided clarification. AIMSA President Mohammad Momin Khan said flights resumed as scheduled after the issue was clarified early on March 12, and students were reassured about their safe evacuation.
