Jammu, Feb 23: The Six-Day National Workshop on Capacity Building for Research and Academic Skills in Life Sciences was inaugurated at the Department of Botany, University of Jammu. The workshop is being organized by the Department of Botany in collaboration with MMTT C (Malviya Mission Teacher Training Centre) under RUSA 2.0.
The workshop aims to train faculty members in Life Sciences in the use of cutting-edge technologies being applied in conducting research and enhancing teaching methodologies for students of Life Science disciplines. It has got participation of faculty from the affiliated colleges of University of Jammu, GCW Parade, Guru Nanak Dev University College, Pathankot and P. G. Departments of the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Jammu along with Research Scholars from different Life Science Disciplines.
Professor Pankaj Srivastava, Director Centre for Distance and online Education was the Chief Guest for the event while Professor Yash Pal Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences was the Guest of Honour. At the outset Professor Susheel Verma, Head Department of Botany and Convener of the workshop welcomed the participants and the dignitaries and elaborated upon the relevance of the workshop in Viksit Bharat Campaign.
Professor Verma also explained that design of the programme of the workshop has been made keeping in view the requirement of the faculty in Life Sciences so that technically skilled human resource is generated which will be helping in making India Developed by 2047.
The detailed six day outline of the workshop was elaborated by Professor Veenu Kaul, Coordinator of the workshop. Professor Veenu meticulously apprised the participants about the kinds of lectures and hands on training sessions in the week long programme important for a self-sustainable tomorrow. She also made participants to know about the Resource persons who will be coming from different Institutes of the country including University of Delhi, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Assam Agricultural University, Lok Nayak Hospital New Delhi, SMVDU and Central University of Jammu.
While speaking to the participants Dean Faculty of Life Sciences and Guest of Honor of the inaugural ceremony Professor Yash Pal Sharma impressed upon the participants to learn the latest in the area of Life Sciences so that the position of India as “Viswa Guru” is further strengthened. Professor Sharma also emphasized upon the relevance of the workshop in contributing towards making India Viksit by 2047. Professor Pankaj Srivastava, Chief Guest of the Inaugural function emphasized upon the participants to be excellent Researchers as well as Teachers Par excellence so that the human Resource needed for addressing different problems of the Society are handled and solved.
Professor Pankaj Srivastava also impressed upon the participants to Learn the latest technology so that India generates the manpower who can March with rest of the world in tandem. Professor Shailendra Goel, Department of Botany, University of Delhi was the Keynote speaker of the workshop who made the participants to learn about Flow Cytometry, a technique used successfully in estimating the ploidy level in plant and cancerous cells.
The know how of such techniques go a long way in addressing problems of agriculture and human healthcare. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Geeta Sharma, Associate Professor in Department of Botany and proceedings of the programme were conducted by Ms. Prakriti Rajput. Senior Faculty members from different Departments of the Faculty of Life Sciences were present during the proceedings.
