He urged entrepreneurs to develop solutions that cater to local needs, leveraging Kashmir’s unique strengths to enhance product quality and durability. The program, sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, focused on the MSME Design Scheme, detailing funding support mechanisms, eligibility criteria, and application procedures. Prof. Atikur Rehman, the Registrar, advocated for stronger collaboration between academia and industry, structured mentoring, and support for prototype development to help entrepreneurs turn ideas into commercially viable products. Prof. Hanief, head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, stressed the need for systematic product development strategies to enhance the durability and competitiveness of traditional products. Additionally, Prof. Irfana Rashid from the University of Kashmir discussed the importance of research-driven innovation, branding strategies, and value addition in traditional sectors like handicrafts and agriculture-based enterprises. Mr. Ajaz Hussain from MSME PPDC provided insights on product development support, quality certification, and technical assistance available to MSMEs through government initiatives, emphasizing the importance of institutional support for prototype development and technology upgrades. Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran, Nodal Officer for the MSME Design Scheme, shared guidelines on financial assistance and implementation processes, encouraging entrepreneurs to adopt sustainable and technology-driven approaches.
