DC Kupwara chairs DRSC Meeting, Reviews action taken on measures for Road Safety & Traffic Management

Kupwara : Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse, Wednesday chaired the monthly meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) to review road safety measures across the district.
Stressing that road safety is paramount for protecting lives, the DC urged stakeholder coordination to ensure strict public adherence to traffic rules.
He directed enforcement agencies to intensify on-ground regulation with stringent action against violators, including a crackdown on underage and teenage driving, overloading, overspeeding, etc.
Traffic police was instructed to ramp up surprise checking drives, deployment additional personnel at critical junctions and market areas, as well as conduct of frequent anti-encroachment drives by MCs and the revenue department to control congestion.
The DC called for extensive awareness campaigns in schools and colleges targeting students, youth, and commercial drivers, led by ARTO, Traffic Police, and the Chief Education Officer.
He also reviewed action taken regarding the audit of school buses as well as inspections of driving schools by ARTO.
He also reviewed progress made regarding road safety audits, particularly on hilly roads and highways by PWD/PMGSY and BEACON, along with black spot identification and rectification.
Executing agencies were directed to ensure curve improvements and timely patching or repair of main and inner roads, as well as installation of signages at blind curves, and to ensure full safety compliance.
For emergency medical response, the DC emphasized ambulance deployment considering accident-prone spots as well as health institutions’ readiness.
Departments were also asked to submit proposals for funding under the Road Safety Action Plan to augment infrastructure and medical care, and were directed to focus on accident-prone areas on the iRAD portal.
The meeting was attended by ADC Kupwara, ASP Kupwara, ASP Handwara, SE R&B, CPO, ACD, CEO, CMO, ARTO Kupwara, Executive Engineers (PWD), EO MC, and other officials.
