Jammu: Two Pakistani inmates who had escaped from an observation home at RS Pura on Monday were arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana Police from Ambala Railway Station, officials said on Tuesday.
Reports said that arrested inmates were identified as identified as Ahsan Anwar, son of Mohammad Anwar, a resident of Nankana Sahib, Punjab, Pakistan; Mohammad Sanaullah, son of Mohammad Zaffer, of Basti Jawewala, Tehsil Dinpur, District Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Pakistan, lodged at the observation home in the RS Pura area on the outskirts of Jammu.
An official said that acting on specific inputs and a coordinated alert, the STF Haryana apprehended the duo from Ambala Railway Station while they were reportedly attempting to move out of the region.
The third escapee, Karanjit Singh alias Gugga, son of Arjun Singh, a resident of Dablehar, R.S. Pura, a local inmate from Jammu district, continues to remain at large, he added.
A massive manhunt has been launched by police teams, with search operations intensified across border areas and adjoining districts.
Checkpoints have been strengthened and alerts sounded at bus stands and railway stations.
Earlier, three inmates had escaped from the observation home under suspicious circumstances, triggering serious security concerns given the involvement of foreign nationals.
Preliminary reports suggest possible negligence in supervision and security protocol at the facility. Taking serious note of the lapse, the police department has reportedly placed six personnel under suspension pending a departmental inquiry.
Senior officers have ordered a time-bound probe to fix responsibility and review the security arrangements at juvenile and observation homes across the region.
Officials said further investigation is underway, and necessary legal procedures are being initiated to bring the arrested inmates back to Jammu for further questioning and judicial proceedings.
Meanwhile, security agencies are examining all possible angles, including whether the escape was pre-planned and if any external assistance was involved
