Baramulla, February 13: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa along with SSP Baramulla Gurinder Pal Singh presided over a Road Safety Awareness Programme organized by the Education Department Baramulla at Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Baramulla.

The event witnessed the presence of the Joint Director Education Kashmir, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla and officers from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Traffic Police and cluster and zonal heads of the education department.

The awareness programme was organized to orient and sensitize educators on safe road practices, so that they can further disseminate this knowledge and inculcate responsible behaviour among students.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC underscored the growing need for cultivating a culture of road safety among the youth and emphasized that students can act as ambassadors of change.

The DC reiterated that educators have a crucial role in spreading awareness among the young generations about responsible driving practices, including wearing helmets and seat belts and refraining from dangerous stunts on roads, which often lead to serious accidents.

The SSP Baramulla highlighted the importance of complying with traffic rules and stressed that preventive awareness, coupled with enforcement, is essential to reducing road accidents in the district.

During the course of the programme, the Joint Director, CEO, deputy CEO and other speakers highlighted the importance of conducting road safety activities at zonal, sub-divisional, and district levels to ensure wider outreach among students.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge by all the participants to promote safe driving practices and contribute towards building a safer and more responsible society.
