Successful Facilitation of Tourist Movement Amid Heavy Snowfall in Tangmarg Sub-Division
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterWhatsappTelegramEmail

Baramulla: 23, Jan : Heavy snowfall was witnessed in the Baramulla District with peak activity of the weather system observed in the Tangmarg/Gulmarg area, leading to significant accumulation of snow and disruptions on the Gulmarg-Tangmarg (GT) road.

The adverse weather conditions, including pre-snowfall wind havoc, necessitated the suspension of vehicular movement on the route as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.

As a result, a large number of tourists and visitors found themselves stuck on either side of the Tangmarg-Gulmarg road which was witnessing hazardous and life threatening conditions.

In a coordinated and swift response, working in close coordination Baramulla Police facilitated the safe movement of approximately 1600 tourists under extremely challenging weather conditions. 1000 guests were safely moved from Tangmarg to Gulmarg while 600 guests were assisted in the opposite direction (from Gulmarg to Tangmarg/Srinagar side).

All the officers and personnel of police were on ground coordinating the operation on ground with magistracy, MED, CAPF and all sister security forces. The movement was simultaneously being coordinated with Budgam and Srinagar police as well.

Through a carefully regulated one-way corridor system, batches of 10 to 12 vehicles were facilitated alternately in upward and downward directions on the GT road. All vehicles employed in the movement were 4×4 SUVs equipped with anti-skid chains to ensure grip and stability on the snow-covered and slippery stretches.

Baramulla Police reiterates that only vehicles fitted with anti-skid chains and adhering to safety norms are permitted on the route. There are apprehensions of formation of black ice and slippery road conditions in the coming days and travellers are advised to act in line with the various advisories in vogue.

Baramulla Police advise citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during snowfall, follow official advisories, and remain assured that police assistance is available round the clock.
