Srinagar: The Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, on Friday held an interaction with 29 Probationary Deputy Superintendents of Police Dy SPs of the 2024 batch, undergoing practical training across districts of the Kashmir Zone. The programme was conducted at Police Control Room Kashmir and attended by senior officers, including the DIG Central Kashmir Range, SSP PCR Kashmir, SO to IGP Kashmir, and other senior officers.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) welcomed the new probationers into the police service, emphasizing the core values of integrity, fairness, impartiality, accountability, and discipline that should guide their actions. V.K. Birdi elaborated on the critical roles and responsibilities of Deputy Superintendents of Police (Dy SPs) in various areas such as operations, investigations, law enforcement, and administrative oversight. He highlighted the necessity for sound decision-making, effective leadership, and continuous learning during the early stages of their careers. Birdi stressed the importance of conducting professional, thorough, and outcome-oriented investigations while adhering to procedural requirements under specific laws, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The IGP advised the officers to develop investigative and operational skills, maintain a comprehensive understanding of criminal laws and procedures, and effectively utilize information technology in their work. He underscored the need for compliance with police rules, standing orders, and proper documentation practices, including the drafting of First Information Reports (FIRs), petitions, and the management of police station records. The significance of professional conduct, discipline, and the supervision of subordinates was also emphasized, along with the importance of proper uniform presentation and ethical behavior. Officers were encouraged to cultivate interpersonal skills, humility, and moral values, and to consult legal texts, manuals, and official guidelines to enhance their competence. Additionally, Birdi highlighted the necessity of public engagement, urging officers to adopt a problem-solving mindset, balance compassion with firmness, and use social media responsibly. The program concluded with the probationary officers reaffirming their commitment to serve with dedication, integrity, and responsibility, upholding the values and traditions of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
