Beyond the Horizon Rajnath Charts a Bold Course for Tech-Driven Innovation

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday lauded the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for its decisive role in the success of Operation Sindoor, noting that the indigenous weapon systems developed by the agency proved crucial to national interests. Speaking at the 68th Foundation Day of DRDO in New Delhi, the Minister emphasized that the professionalism and commitment shown by the organization during the operation served as a testament to India’s growing self-reliance in the defence sector. He commended the seamless performance of state-of-the-art equipment provided to the Armed Forces, which he noted significantly bolstered the morale of personnel on the field.

During his address, Singh expressed strong confidence in DRDO’s ability to realize the Sudarshan Chakra project, an ambitious air defence system announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his 2025 Independence Day speech. The Minister explained that this initiative tasks DRDO with providing comprehensive aerial protection to vital installations across the country over the next decade. He highlighted that the tactical lessons learned from Operation Sindoor underscored the critical necessity of advanced air defence in modern warfare, making the swift completion of the Sudarshan Chakra a primary national objective.

The Defence Minister also highlighted the organization’s success in fostering a synergetic defence ecosystem through deep collaboration with private industry, academia, and start-ups. He observed that DRDO has consistently refined its internal processes, from procurement to project management, thereby making engagement with MSMEs and start-ups faster and more reliable. This evolution, he suggested, has not only resulted in advanced technology but has also built significant public trust in indigenous capabilities.

Urging the scientific community to stay ahead of a rapidly evolving technological landscape, Singh called for a focus on innovation and the exploration of new warfare domains. He remarked that as yesterday’s knowledge quickly becomes obsolete, continuous learning and challenging existing norms are essential to paving the way for the next generation. The visit concluded with a comprehensive briefing by DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat on the achievements of 2025 and the strategic roadmap for 2026, with the Minister calling for sustained efforts in deep tech to further strengthen the national defence infrastructure\\
