Srinagar: The year 2025 kicked off with a classic Kashmiri “Chilla-i-Kalan,” draping the valley in a thick, silent blanket of white. But beneath the snow, the region was pulsing with progress.

January: History was carved through the mountains as the Sonamarg Tunnel was inaugurated, finally conquering the winter isolation. Simultaneously, the sleek Vande Bharat Express glided into Srinagar for the first time, turning the arduous journey from the plains into a high-speed luxury experience.

February: Gulmarg transformed into a global skiing mecca, its slopes alive with powder-seekers. On February 26th, the valley echoed with the spiritual resonance of Herath (Maha Shivratri), as the Kashmiri Pandit community celebrated with traditional fervor, warmth, and walnut-filled blessings.

The Great Awakening|Spring Blooms (March – May): As the ice retreated, J&K exploded into a kaleidoscope of colors. The Mughal Gardens shook off their slumber, and the air turned sweet with the scent of almond blossoms.

March: The Tulip Festival painted the foothills of the Zabarwan Range in impossible hues. The season reached a crescendo on March 31st, as the joy of Eid-ul-Fitr blended seamlessly with the blooming landscape.

April: Despite a shadow cast by a somber event in Pahalgam on April 22nd, the spirit of the people remained unbroken. From the rhythmic beats of Baisakhi in Jammu to the sacred gatherings at Mela Bahu Fort, the month was a testament to the region’s cultural depth.

May: The spiritual calendar remained full. The serene prayers of Buddha Purnima and the sacrifice of Eid-ul-Azha kept the valley’s heart beating steady through the transition into the warmer months.

Sun-Drenched Summits|The Season of Soul (Jun – Aug): Summer 2025 was defined by crystal-clear alpine lakes and the rhythmic footsteps of pilgrims.

June: The spiritual energy was palpable. Thousands gathered at Tulmulla for Mela Khir Bhawani, while the trail to the holy Amarnath Cave was prepared for the influx of the faithful.

July: Adventure took center stage. The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek saw a record number of backpackers chasing the turquoise waters of Gangabal and Gadsar. On July 6th, the community came together in solemnity to observe Ashoora.

August: The valley turned a deep, emerald green. Independence Day was marked by vibrant “Tiranga” rallies that colored the streets, signaling a new chapter in the region’s evolving social and political story.

The Golden Harvest|Saffron & Chinars (Sep – Nov): As the heat faded, a golden hue settled over the land. This was the season of abundance, where the earth gave back its greatest treasures.

September: The “Red Gold” of Saffron and the crunch of Kashmiri Apples took over the economy. While ripples of tariff-related unrest were felt across the LoC, the UT remained a hub of harvest activity.

October: A month of lights and legacies. Between the historic Accession Day and the sparkling lamps of Diwali, the fields of Pampore became a purple sea of saffron crocuses, drawing photographers from across the globe.

November: The focus shifted to the future as the academic session thrived. The month concluded with the peaceful celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Birthday, reflecting the region’s beautiful religious tapestry.

The Year Ends|A Record-Breaking Finale (Dec):  Winter returned with a roar, but this time, J&K was more ready than ever to host the world.

  • December: Gulmarg reclaimed its crown, launching Asia’s longest ski drag lift to the delight of adrenaline junkies. By year’s end, the numbers told a story of triumph: 58 crore visitors had walked these lands, with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi in Jammu seeing a historic surge in pilgrims.
