Srinagar: Below is the weeklong timeline of some of the defined moment witnessed this week:-
1. Parliament Adjourned Sine Die After 19-Day Winter Session: Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die on Monday, bringing the 19-day Winter Session to a close. The session began on December 1 and witnessed extensive legislative business along with key debates on national importance. Lawmakers met over multiple sittings to discuss and pass crucial Bills aimed at governance reforms and national development. Despite some disruptions, the session recorded high productivity levels.
2. Lok Sabha Records 111% Productivity, Says Speaker Om Birla: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, in his valedictory address, said the Lower House achieved nearly 111 per cent productivity during the Winter Session. He informed members that the Lok Sabha held 15 sittings, during which most scheduled legislative and discussion work was completed successfully. The Speaker thanked members across party lines for their cooperation and participation, stating that constructive engagement helped ensure smooth conduct of proceedings.
3. Rajya Sabha Achieves 121 % Productivity: Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan said the Upper House functioned for around 92 hours and recorded an impressive 121 per cent productivity during the Winter Session. He noted that discussions were marked by depth and seriousness on issues of democratic and historical significance. A special discussion on the 150th anniversary of the national song “Vande Mataram” saw participation from 82 members, while another focused debate on electoral reforms involved 57 members sharing views on strengthening India’s democratic framework.
4. Chairman Flags Disruptions, Urges Members to Maintain Decorum: Expressing concern over disruptions during one of the sittings, Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan criticised the conduct of certain opposition members. He said shouting slogans, displaying placards, disrupting ministers during replies, and throwing papers into the well of the House were acts unbecoming of Members of Parliament.
5. Rijiju Calls Winter Session Productive, Highlights Key Bills: Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju termed the Winter Session of Parliament as highly productive. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, he said the Bills passed during the session would play a significant role in improving the lives of crores of people and advancing the vision of a developed India. Rijiju said discussions, including the one on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, helped inspire patriotism. He also noted that Parliament witnessed focused debates that clarified key policy issues and strengthened public trust in legislative processes.
6. Eight Bills Passed; Electoral Reforms Discussion Held For First Time: Parliament passed a total of eight Bills during the Winter Session, with the Lok Sabha introducing ten Bills and passing eight, while the Rajya Sabha approved all eight. Key legislations included the Viksit Bharat – G RAM G Bill, 2025, nuclear energy reforms, insurance law amendments, and a national security-related health cess.
