“Gurez Road Closed, Use Chains & Avoid Hilly Travel; High-Level Safety Meet Held”

Srinagar : The administration has issued weather and snowfall advisories for several districts in Kashmir due to anticipated heavy snowfall in upper regions.
People have been advised to avoid non-essential travel on specific roads, including Daksum-Sinthan Top-Chhatroo and Gowran-Margan Top-Warwan, and to ensure vehicles are equipped with anti-skid or snow chains. Police hasbeen instructed to close unsafe roads, and the District Police Kupwara has urged residents and travelers to exercise caution and adhere to official directives.
In Gurez, vehicular traffic was suspended as a precautionary measure, with restrictions in place for movement between Gurez and Bandipora. The SDM Gulmarg has also advised against the use of heavy vehicles on the Tangmarg-Gulmarg road until further notice. Traffic Police in Rural Kashmir have emphasized the importance of following cut-off timings and ensuring vehicle readiness for adverse weather conditions. Authorities have recommended that travelers plan journeys during daylight and check road conditions with the Traffic Control Unit before traveling, especially on routes like Srinagar-Kargil. A high-level meeting was convened to discuss traffic management on National Highway-44 (NH-44) in light of the forecasted weather, with a focus on snow clearance operations and maintaining safe vehicular movement. The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate snowfall in higher reaches and rain in the plains from December 20 to December 23, with warnings of potential heavy snowfall in certain districts. A comprehensive action plan has been established to ensure public safety and effective communication among agencies during this period of inclement weather.
