Fog hits Air Traffic: 12 flights cancelled, 18 delayed at Srinagar, Jammu Airports

Srinagar : Dense fog significantly impacted Kashmir on Saturday, leading to reduced visibility and disruptions in both road and air travel amid ongoing cold conditions.
Reports said that in Srinagar, visibility fell to just a few meters, prompting traffic authorities to advise caution on major routes, including Airport Road. Commuters experienced slower travel, particularly during peak morning hours. Srinagar International Airport faced operational challenges, resulting in several flight cancellations due to adverse weather affecting parts of North India. Passengers were encouraged to verify flight statuses with their airlines prior to travel. Similarly, Jammu Airport reported cancellations for multiple flights between Delhi and Jammu. Road travel was also hindered, with traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway slowing down. Rural areas such as Budgam, Pulwama, Anantnag, and Ganderbal experienced significant overnight temperature drops, exacerbating the fog conditions. Locals reported delays in daily activities, with farmers postponing fieldwork and shopkeepers opening later than usual. The Meteorological Department has forecasted rain and snowfall for Jammu and Kashmir in the upcoming days. Light to moderate snowfall is anticipated in higher elevations, while the plains may see light to moderate rain from the evening of December 20 to December 21. December 22 may bring light rain or snowfall to various locations, followed by partly cloudy weather from December 23 to 30, with potential light snowfall in some higher areas on December 31. Authorities have warned that moderate to heavy snowfall may occur in the higher reaches of Kupwara, Bandipora, and Ganderbal districts on December 21. Travelers and transporters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and adhere to traffic and administrative advisories to prevent inconvenience and accidents.
