Ganderbal Dec 19:The Mountain Research Centre for Sheep & Goat (MRCS&G), Shuhama, under SKUAST-K, in collaboration with the Ganderbal Press Association (GPA), organised a plantation drive of fodder tree saplings at the Shuhama campus on Friday to promote environmental conservation and sustainable livestock development.
The drive was inaugurated by Senior Scientist and Head, MRCS&G, Dr. Parvaiz Reshi, along with GPA president Sofi Ayaz. Those present included Students Welfare Officer, FVSc & AH, Dr. Aijaz Qureshi; Medical Officer, FVSc & AH, Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed; SHO Ganderbal Sajad Assad; DO Shuhama Riyaz Ahmad Wani; members of the Ganderbal Press Association and scientists of MRCS&G. Mulberry saplings were planted on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Reshi said SKUAST-K is conducting plantation drives across its campuses as part of a green initiative aimed at strengthening environmental conservation while supporting sustainable livestock production. He highlighted the role of fodder tree plantations in improving environmental quality and providing nutritious leaf fodder for animals.
Dr. Reshi said MRCS&G has planned the plantation of nearly 20,000 saplings. The drive, which began in early November, will resume after the winter season in March. He thanked the Ganderbal Press Association, District Police Ganderbal and other stakeholders for their cooperation in enhancing green cover and promoting livestock welfare.
