Says “Abandon the ‘Macaulay’s slavery mindset’ by 2035, Be part of a collective action to overcome colonial legacies, forge a unique path forward for the nation”
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, addressed the misconception linking the Hindu faith to India’s historical economic stagnation, referring to it as the “Hindu rate of growth.” He emphasized India’s role as a bridge builder in a fragmented world, highlighting the nation’s self-confidence amidst global uncertainties.
Prime Minister Modi contrasted India’s growth narrative with the global slowdown, asserting that India is becoming a pillar of trust in challenging times. The Prime Minister criticized previous governments for lacking faith in citizens, stating that his administration has shifted this paradigm by allowing self-attestation for official processes, thereby reducing bureaucratic hurdles. This initiative is part of the Jan Vishwas Bill, which aims to decriminalize minor compliance issues to alleviate burdens on citizens. PM Modi also noted the significant financial inclusion efforts, revealing that Rs 37 lakh crore has been disbursed in guarantee-free loans to small vendors and economically weaker sections. Additionally, he highlighted the issue of unclaimed funds, with substantial amounts lying idle in banks and other financial institutions. The government has initiated district-level camps to assist citizens in reclaiming these funds, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to restoring public trust. In a personal appeal, Modi urged citizens to abandon the “Macaulay’s slavery mindset” by 2035, calling for collective action to overcome colonial legacies and forge a unique path forward for the nation.
