G’bal: The final of the first-ever Martyr Police Constable Rameez Memorial Cricket League was held at the Muqam Cricket Ground in Margund, Kangan, on Thursday, bringing an emotional close to a tournament dedicated to a fallen J&K Police constable.
Kunmullah Titans clinched the title with a comprehensive 123-run win over Kangan Fighters, dominating both with the bat and the ball in a one-sided summit clash. Senior police officials, including SDPO Kangan Rajeev Kumar and SHO Kangan Inspector Lateef Ali, along with the father of Martyr Constable Rameez Ahmad, attended the closing ceremony. Their presence underscored the emotional significance of the event, organised in memory of the young constable who sacrificed his life in service to the nation.
The tournament was organised by the Margund Cricket Board, with significant support from local journalist Hadi Hidayat, both of whom were instrumental in coordinating the month-long event. Officials said the league aimed to encourage youth participation in sports while honouring the sacrifices of security personnel. Addressing players and spectators, the SDPO and SHO stressed the importance of channeling youth energy into sports and community-building activities. The cricket board added that it would continue organising similar events to strengthen the sports ecosystem in rural areas. The final ended with applause, camaraderie, and poignant tributes, as residents and players came together to remember the martyr and celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship.
