Lifts a combined 362.5 kg to triumph over competitors from Canada and Japan in the M2 57 kg category

Reno, Nevada : Ekta Vishnoi, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer presently serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, has brought glory to the country by winning three gold medals in the M2 (50–59 years), 57 kg category at the World Masters Classic and Equipped Powerlifting Championships 2026, held in Reno, Nevada, USA.

Vishnoi delivered an outstanding performance, lifting 130 kg in squat, 72.5 kg in bench press and 160 kg in deadlift, for an impressive combined total of 362.5 kg. She finished ahead of competitors from Canada, who recorded a total of 330 kg, and Japan, whose total was 325 kg. Her achievement underlines her exceptional strength, discipline and determination, placing her among the leading competitors in her category at the international masters level.

A senior civil servant with a distinguished association with India’s sports and fitness initiatives, Vishnoi previously led the Fit India Mission and served as Deputy Director General (DDG) of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Her latest accomplishment demonstrates how a demanding career in public service can go hand in hand with high-level sporting excellence.

Speaking after her achievement, Vishnoi said, “Winning three gold medals at the World Masters Championships and representing India on the international stage is a moment of immense pride for me. A total of 362.5 kg is the result of years of discipline, perseverance and hard work. I hope my journey inspires more women, particularly those in their 40s and 50s, to pursue their sporting dreams and believe that age is no barrier to excellence.” Vishnoi acknowledged the crucial role of her coach, Sunil Kumar, in preparing her for the championship. “My coach, Sunil Kumar, has been a constant source of guidance, strength and encouragement. His technical expertise and belief in me have helped me push my limits. This achievement is the result of our collective commitment and hard work,” she said. Her sporting journey is particularly noteworthy given her professional responsibilities. As a former leader of the Fit India Mission, she worked to promote a culture of fitness among citizens, while her tenure as DDG of the Sports Authority of India strengthened her association with India’s sporting ecosystem. She now serves as Joint Secretary in the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. Reflecting on the importance of fitness, Vishnoi said, “Fitness is not just about strength; it is about mental resilience, consistency and the courage to keep challenging yourself. As professionals, we often have demanding schedules, but investing in our health is essential. I hope my achievement encourages people to make fitness a priority and continue setting new goals throughout their lives.”

Vishnoi’s victory in Reno is a proud moment for Indian masters powerlifting and a powerful example of the pursuit of excellence across professional and sporting arenas. Her performance highlights the importance of disciplined preparation, expert coaching and an unwavering commitment to one’s goals. The World Masters Classic and Equipped Powerlifting Championships bring together masters athletes from across the world to compete in different age and bodyweight categories. The competition comprises three disciplines—squat, bench press and deadlift—with the combined weight lifted determining the athlete’s total.

With a combined lift of 362.5 kg and victories over competitors from Canada and Japan, Ekta Vishnoi has added another significant achievement to her sporting journey while representing India on the world stage.
