Says “ Innovative Spirit Of Tamilnadu Farmers Laudable For Having Transitioned From Prestigious Careers To Farming”
Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India’s potential to become a global hub for natural farming during his address at the South India Natural Farming Summit.
Addressing a gathering after releasing the 21st instalment of PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Prime Minister highlighted the significant transformation in the agriculture sector over the past 11 years, noting that agricultural exports have nearly doubled. Modi expressed his personal connection to natural farming and praised the innovative spirit of Tamil Nadu’s farmers, some of whom have transitioned from prestigious careers to agriculture. The Prime Minister announced the transfer of over Rs 18,000 crore to nine crore beneficiaries under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, reinforcing the government’s commitment to modernizing agriculture and supporting farmers. He acknowledged the changing perception of agriculture among the youth, who now view it as a modern and scalable opportunity, which is expected to significantly boost the rural economy. The South India Natural Farming Summit, scheduled for November 19-21, aims to promote sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices. It will focus on creating market linkages for farmer-producer organizations and rural entrepreneurs, showcasing innovations in organic inputs, agro-processing, and indigenous technologies. The event is expected to attract over 50,000 participants, including farmers, practitioners, and stakeholders from various southern states. Earlier in the day, Modi participated in the birth centenary celebrations of Sri Satya Sai Baba in Andhra Pradesh, where he spoke about the importance of combining devotion with service and knowledge with compassion.
