Says “NC renews statehood demands, Stands for a court-based process for employee terminations
Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reaffirmed the National Conference’s commitment to fulfilling all promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir before seeking their support again.
Addressing a public in Chinar Park Handwara Omar emphasized the party’s dedication to restoring the region’s voice in Parliament and ensuring justice in governance. Abdullah highlighted the importance of strengthening representation, improving livelihoods, and creating employment opportunities, asserting that these goals can only be achieved with proper representation. He congratulated senior party leader Chaudhary Ramzan for his recent victory in the Rajya Sabha elections, describing him as the best choice to represent Jammu and Kashmir’s interests. Abdullah expressed confidence that the NC’s nominees would effectively raise the region’s issues in Parliament, which had been largely silent since 2022. He stressed the need for a strong voice to remind the Centre of its commitments, including the restoration of statehood and constitutional guarantees that had been withdrawn. The Chief Minister criticized the Centre for failing to fulfill its promises regarding statehood and constitutional rights, asserting that the National Conference would continue to advocate for these issues. He pointed out the lack of meaningful representation for north Kashmir and promised that Handwara would be granted district status once statehood is restored. Additionally, Abdullah welcomed former People’s Conference leader Ashiq Neelum into the National Conference, believing his influence would strengthen the party’s position in Kupwara and north Kashmir. He maintained that despite distractions from opponents, the party remains focused on its commitments to the people. In response to media inquiries, Abdullah stated that the termination of government employees should adhere to legal procedures, advocating for a judicial process to ensure fairness. He also dismissed allegations of violating the Model Code of Conduct, asserting that there were no issues with his conduct.
