Srinagar : Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Saturday chaired a review meeting focused on the progress of road and bridge construction under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting was among others attended by officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and Deputy Commissioners participating via video conferencing.
Addressing the meeting Chief Secretary highlighted the urgency of completing road projects under PMGSY Phases I and II, urging officers to ensure all pending works are executed within set timelines and to assign accountability for any delays. He emphasized the necessity for enhanced on-ground supervision, directing the appointment of senior officers to regularly monitor PMGSY projects through site visits. The Chief Secretary mandated that Executive Engineers and Assistant Executive Engineers conduct frequent field inspections, with their activities closely tracked by the department. He reviewed the status of ongoing and pending projects across various PMGSY phases, including detailed discussions on Phase IV initiatives aimed at improving connectivity in remote areas. Anil Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of PWD, provided an overview of the department’s strategy for completing remaining road and bridge works. As of April 2025, there are 88 pending projects under Phase I, 6 under Phase II, and 85 under Phase III, with some projects already completed. Regarding bridges, 227 out of 305 have been finished, with additional targets set for completion by March 2026. For Phase IV, 316 schemes have been sanctioned, with three already in execution. The remaining projects are in various stages of evaluation and tendering. The Chief Secretary reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing rural connectivity and infrastructure, stressing the importance of effective monitoring, adherence to quality standards, and timely project completion under PMGSY across Jammu and Kashmir.
