World Pharmacists Day Observed at KU’s Hazratbal campus
Srinagar | : The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Kashmir, in collaboration with the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India, celebrated World Pharmacists Day 2025 with the theme “Think Health, Think Pharmacist.”
The event gathered academicians, healthcare professionals, and students to highlight the critical role of pharmacists in public health, medicine safety, and healthcare innovation, especially in light of the increasing threat posed by counterfeit and substandard drugs. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan emphasized the essential connection pharmacists have between medical research and patient well-being, advocating for a patient-centered approach and ethical responsibility in healthcare delivery. She encouraged young pharmacy professionals to focus their research and innovation on enhancing community health outcomes. Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary of the Health and Medical Education Department, discussed the evolving responsibilities of pharmacists, urging them to adopt technology and collaborate across disciplines to combat the challenges posed by counterfeit drugs. Dean Research Prof. Mohammad Sultan Bhat and Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal reflected on the importance of pharmaceutical sciences in addressing contemporary health issues and shaping healthcare policies. Prof. Iffat Hassan from GMC Srinagar highlighted pharmacists as vital partners in public health and clinical decision-making. Prof. Milind Umekar, President of APTI, and Prof. Zulfiqar Bhat from KU reiterated the significance of pharmacists in healthcare education and patient-centered research. The event also featured a visit by Dr. Shah to KU’s Centre for Interdisciplinary Research and Innovations, where he praised the Centre’s research capabilities and called for collaboration with Government Medical College Srinagar to enhance public health initiatives. The inaugural session saw active participation from faculty, healthcare experts, and students, celebrating the invaluable contributions of pharmacists to both global and community health.
