Srinagar|  :  Airtel Business has entered into a multi-year agreement with the Indian Railway Security Operations Centre (IRSOC) to provide advanced security services aimed at protecting the digital infrastructure of India’s railway network. This network is crucial, operating over 13,000 trains daily and serving more than 20 million commuters, while also facilitating millions of digital transactions and transporting over 1.5 billion tons of freight annually. The protection of sensitive data, including customer identities and payment information, is essential in light of increasing cyber threats. Airtel Business will implement centralized security controls to create a multi-layered defense system for the railway’s extensive database. This initiative will ensure a resilient and compliant backend, safeguarding the digital operations of the railway services, which employ around 160,000 individuals across 26 locations. The security framework will incorporate leading technologies and innovative Make in India cybersecurity products, resulting in a sovereign, fully compliant, and AI-enhanced security ecosystem tailored for critical infrastructure. Sharat Sinha, CEO & Director of Airtel Business, emphasized the importance of advanced defense mechanisms in the face of rising cyber risks that threaten operational continuity and passenger safety. He expressed pride in being selected by IRSOC to enhance the security of India’s complex railway digital infrastructure, aiming to improve security efficiency in ticketing and data management while ensuring safe digital services for millions of commuters. Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of the Railway Board, highlighted the critical nature of cybersecurity due to the increasing reliance on digital technologies for various railway operations. The establishment of IRSOC will facilitate a centralized Security Operations Centre to monitor railway assets, respond to cyber threats, gather intelligence, and collaborate with national cybersecurity agencies. This initiative is expected to streamline IT asset management, enhance service delivery, and protect passenger interests by ensuring uninterrupted services.
