Initiatives focus on sustainability, community health, and spreading awareness across campus

Srinagar | : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Monday observed Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyaan 2025, aligning with the national Clean India Mission through a series of cleanliness, sanitation, and sustainability activities.

Organized by the EBSB Cell in collaboration with NSS and NCC units, the campaign saw enthusiastic involvement from students, faculty, and staff. The initiative commenced on September 17 with an oath-taking ceremony led by key figures including Director Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia and other prominent faculty members. Prof. Kanaujia emphasized the institute’s role in promoting national missions and fostering lifelong habits of cleanliness and sustainability among students. Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman highlighted the importance of teamwork and social responsibility, noting that collective efforts can inspire the broader community. Dean of Student Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Abid Bazaz, acknowledged the crucial role of student participation in these initiatives, which extend beyond campus activities to contribute to a sustainable society. The campaign included various activities such as a campus-wide cleanliness drive, a sanitation initiative for sanitation workers, and a Girls’ Hostel sanitation drive. Notable events included the “Ek Din, Ek Sath, Ek Ghanta” initiative, a Best Out of Waste competition, and a Women Sanitation Awareness program. On September 28, two significant events took place: a Swachhata Run and a plantation drive titled “Ek Ped Vatan Ke Naam,” where participants planted trees around the campus. EBSB Nodal Officer Dr. Ashok Kumar remarked that the campaign aims to instill values of responsibility and sustainable practices in students, striving to make cleanliness a cultural norm at NIT Srinagar. The campaign is set to conclude on October 2, with ongoing preparations for its final activities.
