DC Srinagar Says “ Residents can reduce their electricity bills while contributing towards green & sustainable environment”

Srinagar | : As part of the ongoing Sewa Parv-2025 campaign, an awareness-cum-registration camp under the Prime Minister Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana was Monday organized by the Electric Division 4th of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), at Gandhi Memorial College in Shahr-e-Khaas area of the district.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo was the chief guest on the occasion.

Besides, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Aadil Fareed, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Executive Engineer ED-IV(Khanyar), Gh. Nabi Mir and other officers of KPDCL, the programme was attended by a large number of local residents of the area.

Speaking on the occasion, DC highlighted the benefits of PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana, emphasizing that installing rooftop solar panels can help residents significantly reduce their electricity bills while contributing to a greener and more sustainable environment.

Underlining the purpose of holding the event, DC said that the programme is aimed to inform residents about the scheme’s benefits and facilitate on-the-spot registrations. He added that the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana promotes rooftop solar panel installation, offering subsidies to households for affordable and sustainable energy solutions.

DC urged residents to take full advantage of the scheme by enrolling themselves and embrace its dual benefit of lowering electricity costs and supporting environmental sustainability. He reiterated the district administration’s commitment to ensuring that the maximum number of households benefit from this opportunity.

This awareness programme is part of the ongoing efforts by the district administration Srinagar to promote renewable energy adoption and enhance public awareness of government initiatives designed to improve citizens’ quality of life.

In his remarks, Additional Deputy Commissioner underscored the environmental advantages of the scheme, highlighting its role in advancing the government’s energy sustainability goals while providing tangible financial relief to families.

Chief Planning Officer highlighted the advantages of the scheme and stated that the district administration would actively facilitate residents who wish to install rooftop solar panels under the initiative.

During the programme, technical and financial aspects of the PM Surya Ghar were successfully highlighted by the other speakers and experts.
