Awantipora | : The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) on Monday celebrated Sewa Parv (Service Festival) from September 17 to October 2, 2025, emphasizing its dedication to health, wellness, environmental sustainability, and community service.
The festivities commenced with a rally supporting the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan (Drug-Free Campaign), where students and staff, led by Prof. Yasmeena Ashaie, pledged to create a drug-free campus. This initiative was a collaborative effort involving the Health and Wellness Centre, the Dean of Students, and the Proctor Office. In addition to the rally, the Alpine Club and the Department of Environment, Sustainability and Climate Change (DESCC), in partnership with the Department of Social Forestry, Kashmir, conducted a plantation drive at Wasturvan Hillock on the IUST Campus-II. This effort aimed to enhance biodiversity and promote ecological conservation by planting native and climate-resilient saplings. The health and wellness initiative also included a medical check-up camp at the Girls’ Hostel, where over 100 female students were screened for anaemia, revealing that many were affected by the condition. The Health and Wellness Centre plans to conduct follow-up sessions focused on health education and nutritional support to address these findings. Furthermore, the university community participated in a charity drive, collecting books and stationery to assist underprivileged individuals.
