New Delhi|Sept,30 : Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Tuesday emphasized the importance of preparedness against bio-threats and radiological contamination during a recent address at the 100th Raising Day of the Military Nursing Service (MNS) in New Delhi.
Addressing the Scientific Session on the 100th Raising Day of the Military Nursing Service (MNS) at the Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt., CDG General Anil Chauhanhighlighted that the post-COVID era is likely to see an increase in bio-threats, whether man-made, accidental, or natural, and stressed the need for specific treatment protocols and defense strategies to address these challenges.
General Chauhan reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stance on nuclear threats, asserting that while the likelihood of nuclear weapon use is low, it is essential to incorporate radiological contamination protocols into security training. He underscored that preparedness against nuclear threats serves as a deterrent and is crucial for national security.
In his address, General Chauhan praised the Military Nursing Service for its century-long dedication to providing medical care under challenging conditions. He acknowledged the emotional and psychological well-being of nurses, stating that they play a vital role in healthcare by offering hope and compassion. He called for a focus on the well-being of caregivers, recognizing their need for support.
Additionally, General Chauhan advocated for greater jointness among the Indian Armed Forces, noting that the MNS uniquely promotes this integration by allowing nursing staff to transition seamlessly between the army, navy, and air force. He highlighted the MNS’s establishment in 1926 and its evolution into a critical component of the Indian Armed Forces.
