Leh (Ladakh) |Sept, 27 : Director General of Police (DGP) Ladakh, SD Singh Jamwal, has raised serious allegations against activist Sonam Wangchuk, suggesting connections with Pakistan and questioned his international visits.
Addressing a press conference in Leh, Jamwal revealed that a Pakistan PIO had been arrested for maintaining contact with Wangchuk, who has previously attended events in Pakistan and Bangladesh. This has led to concerns regarding Wangchuk’s activities and potential instigation of violence during recent protests in Leh. Jamwal accused Wangchuk of inciting unrest on September 24, which resulted in four fatalities and numerous injuries among civilians and law enforcement. He indicated that Wangchuk’s history of provocative statements and actions could undermine ongoing discussions with the central government. The DGP also mentioned that investigations are underway regarding Wangchuk’s funding sources, particularly in relation to violations of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). In the wake of the violent protests, which included the burning of a BJP office, Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) and is currently held in Jodhpur Central Jail. His arrest followed a hunger strike that concluded just before the outbreak of violence. The situation remains tense, with ongoing investigations into the involvement of other individuals and potential foreign influences in the unrest.
