Ganderbal : As part of the nationwide observance of Swachhata Pakhwada, the Dean Students Welfare, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Studies, and Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority, organized a cleanliness drive at the famous tourist destination Manasbal Lake and its adjoining parks here on Monday.
The event focused on promoting cleanliness and sustainability at Manasbal Lake, engaging students, faculty, and officials to foster a sense of responsibility towards preserving natural and cultural heritage. Dr. Adil Nazki, the Youth Welfare Officer, highlighted the role of students as future professionals in advocating for cleanliness and actively participating in the Swachh Bharat Mission. He administered the Swachhta Pledge to reinforce their commitment to maintaining cleanliness. Shafiq Ahmad, Assistant Tourist Officer from the Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority, emphasized the importance of clean and hygienic surroundings for the safety and sustainability of both visitors and locals. He discussed the authority’s efforts in implementing cleanliness measures and ensuring the long-term conservation of the lake and its surrounding green spaces. Farooq Mir, another official from the authority, pointed out the challenges facing Manasbal Lake, such as waste management, encroachments, and anthropogenic pressures that threaten its ecological balance. The event culminated in a hands-on cleanliness drive involving students at the lakefront and nearby parks. Dr. Abid Suhail Nika, Assistant Professor in the Department of Tourism Studies, moderated the session and expressed gratitude to participants. Additionally, during the Swachhata Pakhwada, cleanliness drives were conducted across various university campuses, where participants were reminded that cleanliness is an ongoing practice that should be integrated into daily life rather than viewed as a one-time campaign.
