Jammu : Northern Railway Safety Commissioner Dinesh Chandra Deswal, Principal Executive Director (RDSO) today conducted inspection of rail bridges in the Jammu Division.
The official PRO of Northern Railway said that the Railway Safety Commissioner flanked by S.K. Sapra, Chief Business Engineer R.P. Singh and Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar, conducted a thorough inspection of Railway Bridge No. 17 between Kathua to Madhopur in Punjab, Railway Bridge No. 137 between Ghagwal and Hiranagar and Railway Bridge 232 on Chakki River between Pathankot Cantt and Kandrodi Block Section and other railway bridges.
“The main objective of this inspection was to take stock of the damage caused due to heavy rains and floods and to complete the repair work soon,” he said.
He stated that due to heavy rains and water logging in Jammu Division of Northern Railway some time ago, flood-like conditions had been created due to which rail traffic was disrupted. In this, the operation of all trains running from Jammu Division had to be stopped.
Due to this natural disaster, all the railway bridges from Jammu to Pathankot Cantt, numbering 17, 232, 137, were badly affected and the railway bridges were damaged due to which keeping in mind the safety of the passengers, the operation of trains had to be stopped.
“But the repair work on these railway bridges was started by the Railway Administration with immediate effect,” he said adding that more than 250 people are engaged in repair work under the supervision of the concerned officials.
And the Divisional Railway Manager of the division, Vivek Kumar, inspects the bridges from time to time.
So that the rail operation of Jammu division can be fully restored, along with giving strict instructions to the concerned officers regarding completion of the repair work, he said.
