Jammu : The 118 Road Construction Company (RCC) of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), under the leadership of Major Jivitesh Razora, on Tuesday restored the crucial Gulabgarh-Chashoti road, which reopened for traffic on Tuesday after being severed by severe torrential rains and landslides on August 26 and 27. This road is vital for connecting numerous remote villages in the Jammu division, and its closure created significant challenges for local communities reliant on it for essential supplies and medical emergencies.
The restoration effort was marked by the dedication of the BRO Karmyogis, who worked tirelessly for 13 days under hazardous conditions, clearing a challenging 14-kilometer stretch of debris. The operation exemplified effective inter-agency collaboration, with the 118 RCC addressing the major damage from the Chashoti side while the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) worked from the Gulabgarh end, successfully opening a 7-kilometer stretch. This combined effort enabled the entire 21-kilometer route to be made motorable in a remarkably short time. The reopening of the road was met with relief and gratitude from local residents, who expressed their appreciation for the BRO’s relentless work, which restored their connection after nearly two weeks of isolation. The swift and efficient response of the 118 RCC underscores the strategic importance of the BRO in maintaining connectivity in challenging terrains and highlights their role in supporting civilian populations during natural disasters. Their motto, ‘Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam’ (Everything is Achievable through Hard Work), has been reaffirmed through this successful operation.
