Srinagar: A joint review meeting was on Wednesday focused on flood preparedness and contingency planning was convened at the Police Control Room in Kashmir to evaluate readiness in light of current weather conditions and forecasts.
The discussions at the meeting were focused on enhancing coordination among various agencies involved in flood response efforts. District heads provided updates on the flood situation in their areas, while the Divisional Commissioner outlined preparedness measures, including embankment protection, rescue and evacuation plans, and contingency arrangements for the river Jhelum and major streams. The discussion also included alternative communication strategies to be employed in case of disruptions. Participants emphasized the necessity of inter-departmental synergy and the development of a comprehensive disaster mitigation plan to protect lives and property. A commitment was made to maintain a high state of readiness, strategically position resources at vulnerable locations, and ensure timely information dissemination to the public for effective evacuation when necessary. The establishment of Joint Control Rooms, incorporating representatives from civil administration, police, military, and other agencies, was proposed. A thorough review of existing response mechanisms highlighted the importance of proactive preparedness and improved inter-agency collaboration. The meeting concluded with a unified commitment to remain vigilant and ready to respond swiftly to any emerging situations. Key attendees included senior officials from various departments, including the Special DGP (Coordination) PHQ J&K, Commandant General HG/CD & SDRF J&K, IGP Kashmir, and district SSPs from the Kashmir Zone, among others.
