Awantipora : The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC) at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) recently hosted the Radio Extravaganza, a talent hunt and skill-showcase event in partnership with Radio Chinar 90.4 FM, a community radio station in North Kashmir.
The primary objective of the event was to provide students with a platform to exhibit their talents, gain practical experience in radio interactions, and enhance collaboration between academia and industry. Dr. Rabia Noor, Head of DJMC, emphasized the event’s focus on discovering hidden talents and empowering students to express themselves through various art forms. She highlighted the unique talents of the participating students. Dr. Afroz Ahmad Bisati, the Chief Guest and Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, commended the initiative, noting the ongoing evolution of radio as a medium. Dr. Ruheela Hassan, Dean of Outreach, reinforced the significance of radio as a powerful communication tool, stating that events like Radio Extravaganza not only celebrate this legacy but also prepare students to become effective communicators and storytellers. RJ Sahil Muzaffar, Station Head of Radio Chinar 90.4 FM, articulated the station’s broader vision of motivating youth beyond mere entertainment. The event featured a dynamic session titled “IUST’s Got Talent,” where students showcased a variety of performances, including poetry, singing, magic, and live podcasting. Interactive sessions allowed students to demonstrate their creativity and spontaneity on air. Selected participants were invited to Radio Chinar’s studio for live programs, providing them with valuable hands-on experience in radio production and anchoring. Overall, Radio Extravaganza not only celebrated student talent but also facilitated practical exposure that complemented their academic learning.
