Rajouri : Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) has secured a significant grant of ₹20.54 lacs under the Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE) programme, funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Government of India.
This project, le by Dr. Aadil Lawaye and Dr. Qamar Rayees Khan from the Department of Computer Sciences, aims to develop advanced Kashmiri Text-to-Speech (TTS) and Speech-to-Text (STT) systems. The initiative is designed to enhance digital accessibility for visually impaired individuals and those with print or reading disabilities, while also contributing to the preservation and modernization of the Kashmiri language. Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, Vice Chancellor of BGSBU, praised the project team for their efforts, highlighting the importance of leveraging technology for social good. He noted that the development of these systems not only empowers the visually impaired but also plays a crucial role in safeguarding linguistic heritage. Prof. Iqbal commended Dr. Lawaye and Dr. Khan for their dedication and innovative contributions to the field.
