Srinagar | : The Economic Offences Wing (Crime Branch Kashmir) has arrested Khursheed Ahmad Bhat, a serving Patwari, in connection with a significant land fraud case. Bhat is the primary suspect in the fraudulent sale of 7 kanals and 2 marlas of land in Mouza Nuner, Ganderbal.
The investigations indicate that he, along with accomplices, impersonated landowners and executed a fake sale agreement for the property, which was actually owned by a migrant Kashmiri Pandit and managed under a power of attorney by another party. The complainant had already disbursed Rs 1.19 crore of the total agreed amount of Rs 2.76 crore before uncovering the fraudulent scheme. Preliminary investigations have revealed a criminal conspiracy involving impersonation and the use of forged documents. Consequently, a case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 420, 468, 471, and 120-B, at the Economic Offences Wing police station. Further investigations are ongoing. In addition to Khursheed Ahmad Bhat, other individuals involved in the case have been identified, including Ghulam Nabi Bhat, Abdul Rashid Parray, and Sajid Rashid Parray, all residents of Ganderbal. The case was initiated following a written complaint from the victim, who alleged that Bhat and his associates fraudulently misrepresented themselves as landowners to facilitate the sale of the property.
