Minister Highlights Upcoming KIWSF A Message Of Peace, Prosperity
Srinagar: Minister for Sports, Satish Sharma, has sought an expedited decision on restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, questioning the Supreme Court’s suggestion to wait eight weeks for a resolution.
The Minister emphasized the importance of an announcement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Independence Day, advocating for the restoration of the rights of the people in the region. In addition to the statehood issue, Minister Sharma highlighted the upcoming Khelo India Water Sports Festival, scheduled for August 21 to 23 at Dal Lake, Srinagar. This three-day event will host nearly 800 athletes and over 200 volunteers, promoting a message of peace and unity. The festival is anticipated to enhance cultural engagement and foster a spirit of brotherhood among participants and spectators. The Himalayan Kingfisher was introduced as the mascot for the festival, symbolizing adventure and the natural beauty of Kashmir. The event will feature competitive rowing, canoeing, and kayaking, alongside demonstration events like water skiing and dragon boat racing. The Khelo India Water Sports Festival is part of a broader initiative to host national sporting events monthly in Jammu and Kashmir, reinforcing the region’s commitment to peace and development. The festival’s logo reflects the essence of Kashmir, showcasing a Shikara on Dal Lake against a backdrop of mountains, symbolizing the region’s natural beauty and sporting spirit. Local leaders expressed pride in the event, with aspirations for Dal Lake to become a prominent hub for water sports in India, following Gulmarg’s recognition as the winter games capital.
