Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir Police has been recognized as the most decorated police force in India, receiving 127 Gallantry Medals on Independence Day 2025, the highest awarded to any police force or state/UT.
The Ministry of Home Affairs reported that out of 233 Gallantry Medals distributed nationwide, 152 were awarded to personnel in Jammu and Kashmir, with the J&K Police leading the count, followed by the CRPF, Uttar Pradesh Police, BSF, and Chhattisgarh Police. This year, the total number of medals across various services, including police, fire, home guard, and correctional services, reached 1,090, which included 233 Gallantry Medals, 99 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service, and 758 Medals for Meritorious Service. Notable awardees from the J&K Police include Sujeet Kumar, IPS; Dr. G. V Sundeep Chakravarthy; Iftikhar Talib, who received the rare Third Bar to the Gallantry Medal; and Late DySP Humayun Muzammil, who was posthumously awarded the First Bar for his supreme sacrifice. The Fire & Emergency Services of J&K also celebrated the recognition of Noor Alam Jatla, a Sub Officer, for his bravery in life-saving operations. The commendation of the J&K Police serves as a testament to their dedication and courage in a challenging and high-threat environment, reinforcing their commitment to public safety and service. The Kashmir Zone Police expressed their pride in the achievements of their officers and personnel, highlighting their exemplary service as an inspiring example of duty.
