MeT forecasts more rains, landslides, flash floods
Srinagar: Flash floods impacted several regions in Kashmir on Thursday, with ongoing light rains affecting areas including Srinagar. The rainfall has led to a decrease in temperatures across the valley. Notable locations affected by the flash floods include Kawcherwan, Kangan, Gund, Sumbal, and others, with a significant incident reported in the Saspol area of Leh along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway. Water levels in Sheshnag Nallah and Betaab Valley have surpassed the danger mark, raising concerns about potential flooding. Authorities have advised residents to avoid rivers and streams as a precautionary measure. Despite the localized surge, independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif Keng indicated that the situation is being monitored and is not currently alarming. Meteorological officials confirmed that the situation remains under control, with water levels being closely observed and rescue teams on standby. Rainfall data shows Pahalgam received 33.6 mm, while Gulmarg recorded the highest at 47.2 mm. Srinagar and other areas experienced lighter rainfall. The weather forecast predicts continued light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across the Jammu division, with isolated heavy rainfall expected in specific districts. An official advisory warns of potential heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable areas, urging residents to stay away from water bodies and unstable structures to prevent accidents.
