Srinagar | : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested five gamblers in Handwara and also seized stake money and playing cards from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while carrying out a successful operation in the Langate area based on a specific tip-off regarding gambling activities a team from Police Post Langate raided the location and apprehended five individuals identified as Abdul Majeed Sheikh, Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh, Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, Ghulam Mohammad Mir, and Shabir Ahmad Sheikh, who were caught gambling. Stating that during the raid, authorities seized ₹8,060 in stake money and playing cards from the suspects Police in its statement further said that the said accused were arrested and taken to the police station, where they remain in custody. Police in its statement furthermore said that a case was registered under FIR No. 183/2025 at Police Station Handwara, and further legal proceedings are in progress. Reiterating its commitment to monitor unlawful and anti-social activities in the area Police in its statement appealed people to report such incidents, assuring that the identities of informants will be kept confidential.
