Shopian : SHOPIAN, AUGUST 02: A one-day Capacity Building Entrepreneurship Mela was organized Saturday at Government Polytechnic College Shopian under the ambitious Mission YUVA initiative.
The event aimed to sensitize and engage potential entrepreneurs from across the district, particularly the youth and women, in an effort to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset and facilitate self-reliance.
Hundreds of aspiring entrepreneurs participated in the mega event and were offered hands-on experience, live demonstrations, besides expert guidance on starting their entrepreneurial journey.
The event featured screening of promotional videos, interactive training sessions, and a live demonstration of the Mission YUVA app—designed to streamline the registration and tracking of entrepreneurial ventures.
Resource persons provided detailed insights into the Mission YUVA programme, its eligibility criteria, benefits, and government support schemes.
Addressing the gathering, Principal of Government Polytechnic College Shopian emphasized, “The primary aim of this mela is to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit, build skills, provide information on government schemes, and foster self-reliance among the youth through engaging and informative sessions.”
He added that Mission YUVA focuses on youth empowerment across multiple domains including entrepreneurship, skill development, and career support. Based on the YUVA survey, the government has launched a Nano-Enterprise scheme under this mission to help aspiring entrepreneurs start their ventures at grassroots level.
Highlighting the gender-inclusive nature of the initiative, he encouraged young women to leverage the Mission YUVA platform, which offers a 30% subsidy for women entrepreneurs—higher than the 25% for men. He also informed the audience that YUVA Doots have been deployed in every Panchayat to assist youth with onboarding and accessing the scheme’s benefits.
The mela featured multiple sessions and departmental stalls, offering live demonstrations of various skills and services. These activities aimed to encourage participants to consider entrepreneurship as a viable career path, stressing the importance of becoming job creators rather than job seekers.
The event was attended by senior officers from Government Polytechnic College Shopian, Government Degree College Shopian, ITI Shopian, and Employment Office Shopian.
