Says “Terror incidents decline post-Article 370, no talks with Hurriyat, over 1,000 questioned, key suspects identified.”
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that a significant decline in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessed since the abrogation of Article 370, stating that local roots of terrorism have been eradicated, with current threats primarily stemming from infiltrators from Pakistan.
The Home Minister highlighted a dramatic 162% increase in the neutralization of terrorists from 2015 to 2025, despite an overall reduction in terror incidents and casualties. Shah provided comparative data, noting that from 2004 to 2014, the region experienced over 7,200 terror incidents, resulting in 714 civilian deaths and 1,068 security personnel fatalities. In contrast, from 2015 to 2025, terror incidents decreased to 1,525, with civilian deaths at 324 and security forces losses at 542. He attributed these improvements to enhanced security operations and the government’s decisive action in revoking Article 370, which he claimed dismantled the supportive ecosystem for terrorism. The Home Minister dismissed any potential dialogue with the Hurriyat Conference, labeling the group as connected to terrorist activities. He emphasized the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and maintaining law and order in the region. Shah also praised the recent counter-terror operation ‘Operation Mahadev,’ which resulted in the elimination of three terrorists linked to attacks in Pahalgam and Gagangeer. Additionally, he revealed that over 1,000 individuals were interrogated during a recent crackdown, leading to the identification and apprehension of two suspects, Bashir and Parvez, who were allegedly involved in sheltering terrorists.
