Poonch | :  Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed with great zeal and solemnity in Poonch Saturday to honour the unparalleled bravery, courage and supreme sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil War of 1999.

The main commemorative event was held at Pritham Stadium followed by a tribute ceremony at the War Memorial in Ajote.

Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal paid floral tributes to the war heroes and addressed the gathering. In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the immense valour and selflessness displayed by the Indian soldiers during Operation Vijay in 1999 and Operation Sindoor in 2025, commending their unwavering commitment to protecting the sovereignty of the nation.

“The service of the Indian Army to the nation is commendable. On behalf of the civil administration and the people of Poonch, I extend heartfelt gratitude for their sacrifices and tireless efforts in safeguarding our country,” said the DC.

The event witnessed participation from senior officers of the Indian Army, civil administration, J&K Police, students, members of civil society and local residents. All attendees paid heartfelt homage at the War Memorial, Ajote. Wreaths were placed at the memorial to pay floral tributes to the martyrs.

As a mark of respect, the Deputy Commissioner presented mementoes and honoured the families of the martyrs, acknowledging their immense contribution and sacrifice for the country.
