Srinagar : The weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir indicates that rainfall will persist till today (Thursday) evening, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms expected across various regions.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, the Director Meteorological Department here on Wednesday said that intense showers and heavy rainfall are likely in isolated areas of the Jammu division, particularly in Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Reasi, Udhampur, Jammu, and Kathua. From July 25 to July 27, hot and humid conditions are anticipated, with brief showers possible in some locations. Following this period, from July 28 to July 30, intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershowers, along with intense rainfall, are expected, particularly during late night and early morning hours. Jammu and Kashmir has experienced continuous rainfall for three consecutive days, with Srinagar recording 19.3 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Qazigund reported the highest precipitation at 23.9 mm, followed by Katra at 22.1 mm. The Meteorological Department has issued an advisory warning of intense showers, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall in isolated areas until tomorrow, raising concerns about potential flash floods, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable locations. Additionally, water levels in rivers, streams, and local Nallas may rise, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas. Farmers have been advised to resume agricultural activities during the period from July 25 to July 27, taking into account the weather conditions.
