Srinagar | : Police on Monday said that it has seized a substantial quantity of illicit timber in Handwara and also arrested the accused involved in the commission of crime.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that Police Station Qalamabad while acting on inputs about the illegal storage of timber logs by one Bashir Ahmad Najar in his cowshed located in Dhobi Mohalla Haril raided the site and seized 20 deodar timber logs, which were found in the presence of witnesses, following legal procedures. Stating that a a case under FIR No. 24/2025 was registered against Najar under Section 303(2) of the BNS and Section 26 of the Forest Act Police in its statement further said that the said accused was arrested besides which an investigation is underway to determine the source of the timber and any potential connections to organized forest smuggling networks.
