  • US decision a strong affirmation of India-US counter-terrorism cooperation, zero tolerance against terrorism: Jaishankar

Washington, New Delhi| July, 18 : As US Department of State designated The Resistance Front (TRF) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT), Indian welcomed the move calling the decision a strong affirmation of India-US counter-terrorism cooperation and for zero tolerance for terrorism.

The Resistance Front (TRF) identified as a front and proxy for Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the deadly Pahalgam attack on April 22, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, marking it as the most lethal attack on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks by LeT. The group has also been linked to multiple attacks against Indian security forces, with notable incidents occurring in 2024.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that this designation reflects the Trump Administration’s commitment to national security, counter-terrorism efforts, and the pursuit of justice for the victims of the Pahalgam attack. The designation of TRF and its aliases is part of the broader classification of LeT as an FTO and SDGT, in accordance with the Immigration and Nationality Act and Executive Order 13224. The FTO designation for LeT has been reviewed and maintained, with amendments taking effect upon publication in the Federal Register.

Welcoming the decision of Donal Trump led US Administration India on Friday termed the US’ designation of The Resistance Front (TRF) as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) as a strong affirmation of India-US counter-terrorism cooperation and for zero tolerance for terrorism.

In a post on X, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said:“A strong affirmation of India-US counter-terrorism cooperation. “Appreciate @SecRubio and @StateDept for designating TRF—a Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) proxy—as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Gloabl Terrorist (SDGT). It claimed responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam attack.“Zero tolerance for Terrorism. #OpSindoor.”

India’s reaction came as the United States designated The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group, which was behind the horrific April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a statement said the move demonstrates “the Trump Administration’s commitment to protecting our national security interests, countering terrorism, and enforcing President Trump’s call for justice for the Pahalgam attack. ”

“This was the deadliest attack on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks conducted by LeT. TRF has also claimed responsibility for several attacks against Indian security forces, including most recently in 2024. Notably, President Trump was among the first global leaders to condemn the Pahalgam terror attack and also speak with PM Modi to offer support to India.
