Srinagar | : The Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled ‘Emerging Research Trends in Science’ commenced at Government College for Women (GCW), M.A. Road, Srinagar, with a week-long agenda aimed at enhancing faculty engagement in research.
The inaugural function featured key speakers including Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Director Colleges, who emphasized the importance of faculty contributions to higher education beyond mere attendance, advocating for a mentor-mentee relationship with students. Prof. Ajaz highlighted the significant enrollment of 54,000 students for the current admission cycle, underscoring the potential impact of faculty support on student success. He also addressed the upcoming implementation of the fourth year of the undergraduate program under NEP-2020, which will introduce research and honors verticals, presenting both opportunities and challenges for faculty. Prof. Seema Naz, Nodal Principal (Kashmir), echoed these sentiments, stressing the need for faculty awareness and preparation to effectively guide students through the new research vertical. She commended the FDP as a timely platform for discussing contemporary research trends in science. Principal Prof. Yasmeen Farooq welcomed participants, noting the rapid advancements in technology and interdisciplinary research, and the necessity for faculty to stay updated through such programs. The FDP will cover various themes, including Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, and Sustainable Science, with structured sessions and panel discussions. Additionally, the event saw the launch of the college’s electronic Coffee Table Book, documenting its history and future potential. Notable achievements were recognized, including the release of a book on Machine Learning and Cyber-security, and the awarding of patents to faculty members Dr. Momina Nazir and Dr. Parsa Sarosh for their innovative contributions.
